Eight years late, Amtrak and nine of its unions reached a negotiated settlement that includes back pay and wage increases on January 18. Congress must support Amtrak to pay what it has promised to its workers.

FedEx has been successful in preserving an uneven playing field with its competitors. It has convinced Congress and regulators that virtually its entire workforce is composed of aviation workers for purposes of labor-management relations.

UNFAIR BARGAINING AT THE FAA
In 2006, the FAA ignored bipartisan Congressional calls to bargain fairly with its air traffic controllers and other FAA workers. Instead the agency imposed work rules on its employees, a move which has made workforce morale even worse and accelerated worker retirements.

A $20 bus ticket for travel between D.C. and New York may seem like a bargain, but unwitting passengers may be trading away their safety for a cheap ride.
