Letters To Congress

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I ask you to sign the bipartisan letter being circulated by Senators Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) requesting the fully authorized level of $300,000,000 for the Maritime Security Program (MSP) in the FY 2020 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development appropriations bill.

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I ask that you vote YES on the Continuing Resolution to open the government until February 8th. TTD unions represent hundreds of thousands of federal transportation workers who have either been furloughed or working without pay for over a month and are now at risk of missing their second consecutive paycheck. This short-term CR will make these dedicated public servants whole and allow them to continue to work on behalf of the American public while allowing Congress and the Administration further time to solve the underlying conflict that has led to this unfortunate shutdown.

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I urge you to pass H.R. 267, the FY 2019 Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill and end the partial government shutdown by passing the remaining spending bills. Another day cannot pass without federal workers returning to their paid work.

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I urge you to support the comprehensive appropriations package that will be voted on later today and end the needless and costly government shutdown. The package funds six federal agencies, including the Department of Transportation (DOT), through the end of the fiscal year, and funds the Department of Homeland Security until February 8. While we believe that many transportation accounts are in need of significant increases, the legislation being considered today seeks to find common ground by offering funding levels previously supported by the Senate, and most importantly will allow federal employees to return to work on behalf of the American people. 

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I urge you to sign on to Rep. Mark Takano’s Letter to Amtrak President and CEO Richard Anderson in opposition to Amtrak’s announced intention to shut down its Riverside, CA call center location. This decision, set to take effect next month, would result in the loss of 500 good-paying union jobs in California and further undermine Amtrak’s dedicated workforce.

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I urge you to vote YES on the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 (H.R. 302). This bipartisan 5-year reauthorization makes critical investments in the FAA and the National Airspace System (NAS), and provides the long-term and predictable funding that the system needs. We are also pleased that the bill includes several labor priorities that will advance safety and improve working conditions for aviation workers.

On behalf of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), I urge you to vote YES on H.R. 4, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. I want to thank Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member DeFazio for crafting a bipartisan, comprehensive FAA reauthorization that promotes safety, rejects frivolous attacks on labor and worker rights, and provides long-term stability for the FAA. In addition to supporting the underlying bill, I ask that you reject several anti-labor amendments and support others that would further promote safety and security in our aviation system.
