TTD Urges House Members to Cosponsor Bipartisan Bill to Protect America’s Workforce

April 16, 2025

Dear Representative,

On behalf of our affiliated unions representing hundreds of thousands of workers who build, operate, and maintain our nation’s transportation networks, the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), urges you to cosponsor H.R. 2550, the “Protect America’s Workforce Act.” This bipartisan legislation, introduced by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME-2) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1), aims to reverse the Executive Order issued on March 27, 2025, Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs, which stripped collective bargaining rights from 1.5 million federal employees across all federal agencies.

The Protect America’s Workforce Act aims to restore and protect collective bargaining rights in the federal workplace, as outlined in Title 5 of the U.S. Code. Title 5 includes vital workplace protections such as fair pay, equitable treatment, protection against workplace retaliation, whistleblower protections, health and safety standards, and due process in grievance and disciplinary matters. These rights are essential for addressing workplace conflicts early, improving employee retention and productivity, and boosting morale. Federal workers already surrender many rights that private-sector employees enjoy, including the ability to negotiate wages and benefits and the fundamental right to strike.

Union membership improves overall agency performance, fosters a better work environment within the federal government, and ultimately leads to better services for the public. Stand with working people and restore the fundamental rights taken from the 1.5 million public employees and veterans who serve our nation.

To become a cosponsor of this legislation, please contact Matthew Clarkin at Matthew.Clarkin@mail.house.gov in Representative Fitzpatrick’s office or Eric Kanter at eric.kanter@mail.house.gov in Representative Golden’s office. For additional questions or further information, please contact Lianne Endo at LianneE@ttd.org.

Sincerely,

Greg Regan, President
Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO
