By Admin

WASHINGTON – This week, the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers became the 37th affiliated union of the Transportation Trades Department (TTD) of the AFL-CIO.

The Iron Workers union represents 130,000 workers across North America. Members of the union have worked on nearly every major construction project in the country, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sears Tower, and the St. Louis Arch.

“We welcome the Iron Workers union as our fourth new affiliate this year, bringing the unified strength of transportation labor to 37 unions,” said TTD Secretary-Treasurer Shari Semelsberger. “This rapid growth is reflective of the union wave sweeping the country, harnessing historic levels of unionizing and intersectional solidarity. We are stronger together.”

“We are pleased to work with the Transportation Trades Department to advance the needs of our members,” said Eric Dean, general president, Iron Workers.

“Through its top-notch apprenticeship program, the Iron Workers union has provided generations of workers a path to a good union job and lasting career,” said TTD President Greg Regan. “Ironworkers have built projects of historic significance across this nation and will have an essential role in building the infrastructure of the future. We look forward to building back better together.”
