WASHINGTON – Greg Regan and Shari Semelsberger, President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO, issued this statement in response to congressional passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA):
“The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is a historic win for working people.
“The IRA’s landmark investments in our clean energy economy and quality of life improvements, including lower healthcare costs, will help ensure that we build back a more equitable economy that benefits all Americans. Moreover, this legislation ensures the creation of millions of good union jobs by including core labor protections in many of its programs.
“We applaud President Biden – and every Member of Congress who voted in favor of this legislation – for prioritizing working people over wealthy corporations.
“We thank Majority Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi for their leadership, and look forward to working with the Biden Administration to ensure that IRA grant opportunities are coupled with the free and fair choice to join a union.”
