TTD Mourns Loss of ATU Brother Thomas Dunn, Recommits to Fighting for Protections for Transit Workers

By Admin

Washington, DC — Larry Willis, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement mourning the loss of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) member Thomas Dunn:

“We mourn the tragic and untimely loss of ATU brother Thomas Dunn, who was murdered while driving a bus in Tampa over the weekend. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and loved ones, Local 1593, and the entire ATU family.

“No one who works for a living should have to face the kind of unimaginable horror that resulted in Brother Dunn losing his life. Yet, too often, this is a reality faced by America’s transit workforce. For years, TTD and our 33 unions have called on federal officials to pursue policies to mitigate these senseless acts of violence. We urge Congress to pass the Transit Worker and Pedestrian Protection Act and ensure transit workers have the protections they so desperately need and deserve.”
