Friday was the deadline for responses to an advance notice of proposed rulemaking prompted by the Association of American Railroads—which represents Class 1 railroads such as BNSF and Union Pacific—requesting changes “to remove unnecessarily strict regulations that make it harder for the agency and stakeholders to effectively communicate.” The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, the Freight Rail Customer Alliance, and Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO offered their own criticisms of the AAR’s request in filings made public Friday.
