TTD Applauds Increased Rest for Flight Attendants

By Admin

WASHINGTON – Greg Regan, president of the Transportation Trades Department (TTD) of the AFL-CIO, today issued this statement in response to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) announcement of a final rule requiring 10 hours of minimum consecutive rest for flight attendants between duty time:

“This is a historic day for every flight attendant in America. As the largest transportation labor federation in the country, we have fought diligently alongside our aviation unions for an increased rest period for flight attendants. After nearly four years of waiting, including the previous administration’s deliberate delay, we welcome the Biden Administration’s leadership in moving this long-awaited flight attendant rest rule across the finish line and requiring airlines to swiftly implement it within 90 days of publication.”

“Air travel is on the rise and has exceeded pre-pandemic levels in recent months. As airlines continue to understaff their operations and flight attendants are exhausting themselves to meet current air travel demands, fatigue presents serious and unnecessary health and safety risks. A 10-hour minimum consecutive rest period will improve conditions for our nation’s flight attendants and the flying public.”
