Transportation Labor Stands with Striking United Auto Workers

By Admin

Washington, DC — Larry Willis, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement of solidarity with striking GM workers:

“Transportation labor pledges our support to 50,000 United Auto Workers as they stand up to unchecked corporate wealth and power.

“While GM was struggling financially, UAW members and their families did what they had to do to help keep the company afloat. It worked. GM is now raking in billions — but instead of offering employees a fair share of the profits they helped create, the company is threatening workers’ wages and job security, and heartlessly gutted its employees’ healthcare.

“As UAW members enter day four of a national strike, we recognize that their collective action is about more than just economic security and fairness. UAW members are fighting for the future of U.S. manufacturing — a critical component of our transportation system. We applaud our brothers and sisters for their bravery, and proudly stand with them.”
