TTD Commends U.S. Senate for Confirming Sarah Feinberg as FRA Administrator

By Admin

Washington, D.C. – Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO, issues this statement in response to the United States Senate’s confirmation of Sarah Feinberg as Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration:

“I congratulate Sarah Feinberg on her confirmation by the Senate as Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Feinberg brings to this position a commitment to aggressive enforcement of rail safety laws and regulations, and a deep understanding of the importance of front-line rail employees to maintaining the highest level of safety throughout the freight and passenger rail sectors.

“In the nine months that Feinberg has served as Acting Administrator, she has led the agency through a series of rail accidents and derailments that have put a spotlight on the safety of rail transportation. Administrator Feinberg is the right kind of leader for these times who will focus the FRA’s resources on making sure we are doing everything possible to avoid future accidents and better protect rail employees.”

“We look forward to working with the Administrator on common-sense rail safety reforms. We must finally establish a 2-person crew minimum on all freight trains, adopt new measures to combat chronic fatigue, provide additional resources for first-responders who are expected to save lives when rail accidents occur and improve safety protections for signal employees.”
