TTD’s Wytkind Honored with City of Justice Award

By Admin

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today TTD President Edward Wytkind receives the prestigious City of Justice Award from the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE). Wytkind is being honored for more than two decades of work as a national expert and advocate for economic justice and increased investment in America’s transportation systems and infrastructure.

In his remarks accepting the award, Wytkind will reflect on the roles of cities and transportation infrastructure in America’s economic prosperity.

“The failure to invest in and modernize our transportation systems has not only jeopardized our economic health, it has contributed to a larger crisis of faith in what this nation once was known for: getting things done,” Wytkind will say. “Cities of the future must be about creating not just jobs but careers. They must be about getting back to a time when America builds things and uses smart, strategic investments to create grand and modern infrastructure, symbols of a thriving and powerful economy.”

The award is a homecoming for Wytkind, a Los Angeles native, who grew up only a few miles from the awards ceremony. He joins previous honorees who include former NAACP president Ben Jealous, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, television’s “NCIS,” and actors Danny Glover and Sean Penn. This year, he receives the award alongside television series “Modern Family,” labor lawyer Julie Gutman Dickinson, and Westfield Co-CEO Peter S. Lowy.

In addition to his work representing TTD’s 32 affiliate unions, Mr. Wytkind is being recognized for his collaboration with LAANE and its Jobs to Move America (JMA) coalition, which encourages the dedication of public transportation funding to the creation and retention of good transportation manufacturing jobs. TTD helped form JMA and is a member of the JMA Steering Committee.

“Ed is a very committed, inspiring leader and really understands the importance of transportation investment to the health and welfare of communities across America,” said Madeline Janis, Esq., Director of JMA.
