Washington, DC — Larry Willis, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement thanking Dan Lipinski and Don Bacon for standing up for railroad retirees:
“We want to thank Congressmen Dan Lipinski (D-IL) and Don Bacon (R-NE) for leading the effort to bring a much-needed funding increase to the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) to help upgrade its 40-year-old IT system.
“Reps. Lipinski and Bacon sent a letter, along with 36 bipartisan members of Congress, to House Appropriators asking for an additional $19.675 million for RRB. This funding increase is long overdue and is critical to ensuring that over 782,000 active and retired railroad workers receive retirement-survivor benefits, as well as unemployment and sickness insurance.
“We thank these members for their leadership, and look forward to working with them give RRB the resources it needs to best serve railroad workers across the country.”
