WASHINGTON — Greg Regan and Shari Semelsberger, President and Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO Transportation Trades Department (TTD), issued this statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the next Secretary of Labor:
“During her time in Congress, Ms. Chavez-DeRemer showed a willingness to work across the aisle, engage with labor unions, and support policies that strengthen economic opportunities for hard-working Americans. Her pragmatic approach and ability to navigate complex workforce issues make her well-suited to lead the Department of Labor.
“As America’s largest transportation labor federation, representing millions of card-carrying unionized transportation workers across the country, we have appreciated Ms. Chavez-DeRemer’s previous support for the PRO Act and her opposition to right-to-work laws.
“With the right leadership, the Department of Labor has played a vital role in protecting workers’ rights, enforcing labor laws, and ensuring safe workplaces. Amid profound challenges for working people, it is essential that this department is overseen by a leader with a demonstrated commitment to engaging on workforce issues in a serious and solutions-oriented manner.
