Washington, DC – Larry Willis, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement applauding passage of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act:
“We applaud House passage of the Moving Forward Act, which makes unprecedented investments in our nation’s highways, rail network, public transit systems, ports, and aviation sector. We are also pleased this bill includes needed investments in water and energy infrastructure and funds important modernization efforts at the U.S. Postal Service.
“This legislation will create and sustain good jobs in construction, operations, maintenance, design, and manufacturing and could not come at a more critical time for the working people of this country.
“By embracing key priorities that TTD unions have long fought for, this legislation will also enhance safety and job security for millions working on the front lines of our transportation system, including critical federal mandates to protect passenger and freight transportation workers from COVID-19.
“With the current surface transportation authorization expiring in just three months and COVID-19 economic and safety needs demanding immediate action, we strongly urge the Senate to finalize their own proposal and bring it to a vote so that we can move meaningful infrastructure investment legislation to the president’s desk for a signature.”
