Washington, DC – TTD President Edward Wytkind hailed the passage of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2014 today, calling it a victory for the U.S. Merchant Marine, middle class jobs and the broader economy.
“The passage of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2014 is good news for workers, the U.S. maritime industry and the Food for Peace program.
“The Food for Peace program has been a shining example of the United States’ foreign aid agenda. Fortunately, the House of Representatives did right by restoring the Food for Peace program to its long-standing role in food aid delivery. The legislation also provides another bridge for our returning veterans to find good-paying jobs aboard U.S. flag ships. Finally, it takes on the important issue of better understanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and how they impact jobs if those exports are transported by U.S.-flag vessels.”
