WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issued the following statement in response to the death of Senator Robert C. Byrd:
“Transportation workers have lost a supporter and a fighter in Senator Robert C. Byrd. A longtime leader of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Byrd was a life-long champion of investing in and expanding the nation’s transportation system and creating good jobs.
“Sen. Byrd never forgot that the voices of working men and women in West Virginia should drive his work in the Senate. It was this relationship with his constituents and his unparalleled mastery of the legislative process that made him a unique and compelling figure. Senator Byrd will be sorely missed.”
