Transportation Labor Commends Bipartisan House Support for Job Corps

WASHINGTON — Greg Regan and Shari Semelsberger, President and Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO Transportation Trades Department (TTD), issued the following statement commending the 199 Members of Congress who expressed their support for the Job Corps program in a letter to the Department of Labor (DOL):

“We commend the bipartisan coalition of 199 House Members who wrote to Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer today to support the continuation of the Job Corps program. This program is not only an investment in a better life for thousands of at-risk youth, but an investment in local communities where Job Corps Centers are located across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Trade schools and high-skill training programs like Job Corps are increasing America’s skilled workforce in industries like shipbuilding, manufacturing, transportation, and construction. Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have historically supported the program, which has educated and trained millions of students, and oppose the effective dismantling of it today.

“We commend Congressional Job Corps Caucus Co-Chairs Sanford Bishop (GA-2) and Brett Guthrie (KY-2) for leading this effort. We thank the 181 House Democrats who signed the letter, as well as Representatives Mark Amodei (NV-2), Don Bacon (NE-2), Rob Bresnahan (PA-8), James Comer (KY-1), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1), Jeff Hurd (CO-3), Tom Kean (NJ-7), Mike Lawler (NY-17), Frank Lucas (OK-3), John McGuire (VA-5), Blake Moore (UT-1), Dan Newhouse (WA-4), Zach Nunn (IA-3), Chris Smith (NJ-4), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), Joe Wilson (SC-2), and Hal Rogers (KY-5) for voicing their support of the Job Corps program. Investment in disadvantaged youth is not a partisan issue, but one that should unite all Americans.”
