Transportation Labor Applauds Appointment of David Matsuda to MARAD

WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, President of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO, issued the following statement today in reaction to David Matsuda’s appointment as Deputy/Acting Administrator of the Maritime Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation:

“Transportation unions support David Matsuda’s appointment to become the Deputy/Acting Administrator for the Maritime Administration. In his previous experience as both Deputy Assistant Secretary of Policy at the DOT and Senior Counsel for Senator Frank Lautenberg, Matsuda has been actively engaged in every facet of transportation policy, exhibiting a rare breadth of knowledge.
“Matsuda has worked hard throughout his career to shape and advance responsible transportation policies.  And he has always recognized the important role that workers play in the success of our vast national transportation network.

“The Maritime Administration’s programs promote the use of waterborne transportation and its seamless integration with other segments of the transportation system.  Matsuda will work to ensure a strong and viable U.S. merchant marine and to create and protect good jobs in this vitally important sector of the economy.

“As we continue to advocate policies that will boost the economy and create a first-class transportation system, the nation will be well-served by a talented individual such as David Matsuda helping to shape U.S. maritime policy.”
