Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), offers the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s announcement of grant awards from the Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program:
“Transportation workers across the country applaud the announcement of additional investments in our nation’s transportation infrastructure. TIGER grants will continue the stimulus bill’s track record of putting people back to work while building critically needed infrastructure.
“Transportation Labor is reassured to see an Administration that is committed to the essential job of putting people back to work. People who no longer have jobs aren’t just statistics on a chart. They are mothers and fathers who are searching for any opportunity to provide for their families.
“American infrastructure is desperate for investment. Just ask the staff that submitted the 1,400 applications competing for TIGER grants. And meanwhile, working families need jobs. Investments in transportation infrastructure are a proven way of creating them. Let’s get to work.”
