Statement on New Amtrak CEO Charles “Wick” Moorman

Washington, D.C. — Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement following the appointment of Charles “Wick” Moorman as CEO of Amtrak.

“I congratulate Wick Moorman on his appointment as CEO of Amtrak. We’re at a crucial moment in Amtrak’s history with the opportunity to reimagine a modernized national Amtrak system, expand and improve service, and support and create middle-class jobs.

“I also congratulate outgoing CEO Joe Boardman for his service to Amtrak and the nation. Joe took on an extremely difficult job during a difficult time and, despite political headwinds, never stopped pushing for reliable federal investments in Amtrak’s national system. He also focused on trying to rebuild labor-management relations that had become badly frayed under the previous management team. I wish Joe all the best.

“Mr. Moorman can continue the progress that has been made under Boardman by further strengthening Amtrak’s partnership with its employees – one based on mutual trust and cooperation. The men and women who work for Amtrak – members of our affiliated unions – have held the system together despite many years of financial neglect, deteriorating infrastructure and political attacks from lawmakers.

“I look forward to working with Mr. Moorman and the Amtrak Board to make Amtrak the centerpiece of America’s passenger rail future.”
