Washington, DC — Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement in response to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) proposal to ban inflight voice calls:
“Yesterday’s announcement by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is an important recognition of what we have been saying all along: voice cell phone calls do not belong on commercial passenger flights. We applaud the Chairman’s statement, and urge the FCC and the FAA to take the final steps needed to put this issue to bed and permanently ban inflight voice cell phone calls. Failure to do so would result in a disruptive cabin atmosphere that would inhibit safety and security, and increase passenger frustration. This is the safe and sound position for the FCC to take.”
