Statement in support of transportation priorities in Democratic reconciliation spending plan

Washington, DC – Greg Regan, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement in support of tomorrow’s markup by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for their portion of the Democratic reconciliation plan:

“Tomorrow, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will hold a markup for their portion of the Democrats’ proposed $3.5 trillion reconciliation package. Included in the package are a number of key priorities for the 33-union Transportation Trades Department, including:

  • The Affordable Housing Access Program, which will provide an additional $10 billion to ensure that affordable housing is connected to public transportation;
  • Funding for a new Great Lakes Icebreaker vessel, which will support businesses and workers in the Great Lakes region that rely on the maritime industry to transport goods and grow the regional economy;
  • $10 billion for the planning and development of public high-speed rail projects; and
  • $2.5 billion for port infrastructure, including projects to support supply chain resilience, reduce port congestion, and develop offshore wind support infrastructure.

“We thank Chair DeFazio and Democratic leadership for prioritizing the needs of America’s workers and providing additional funding for America’s transportation priorities.”
