WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, President of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), offered the following statement in reaction to the President’s speech to the nation last night:
“The President last night engaged our nation on the continuing need to use billions in new transportation investments as an engine for job creation and economic prosperity. I applaud the President for again making transportation investments a key pillar of his vision to revive the economy.
“President Obama’s call to lawmakers to finally begin the long overdue job of modernizing our transportation system was a blunt warning that America is standing still while nations around the world are making the investments necessary to win in the global economy.
“It is time for a bipartisan Congress to work with the President and enact long overdue transportation reauthorizations. And our elected leaders must find the political will now to finally move a transportation investment plan that modernizes and expands our multi-modal passenger and freight transportation system and puts millions to work.”
