Washington, D.C. — Greg Regan, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), released this statement following Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s announcement of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Innovation Principles:
“The DOT’s Innovation Principles are a reflection of President Biden’s values and represent a major shift in policy focused on centering workers and unions in the transportation innovation process.
“Secretary Buttigieg’s announcement strongly commits this Administration to transportation innovation policies that empower workers and expand access to skills, training, and the choice of a union. This is how new technologies can lead to shared opportunity and prosperity.
“A successful transformation of the transportation network must be guided by purpose-driven innovation that is worker-centered and focused on creating and sustaining good jobs and serving everyone. We welcome the Secretary’s embrace of policies that ensure workers and unions have a ‘seat at the table in shaping innovation.’
“The DOT’s Innovation Principles are a thoughtful and forward-thinking framework. But the details and implementation matter. We look forward to working with the Biden Administration to ensure that workers’ and union involvement are incorporated as a matter of policy.”
