America’s Largest Transportation Labor Federation Welcomes 40th Affiliated Union

WASHINGTON – The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) became the 40th affiliated union of the Transportation Trades Department (TTD) of the AFL-CIO. As America’s largest transportation labor federation, TTD represents millions of workers across the country in aviation, rail, maritime, transit, manufacturing, construction, school transportation, public safety, and other industries.

The skilled members of the IUEC specialize in installing, servicing, repairing and modernizing elevators, escalators, and other conveyances. Founded in 1901, the IUEC stands more than 30,000 members strong today. The union has spent over a century organizing, training, and advocating for elevator constructors across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Guam.

“No matter the industry, whether you’re in the public or private sector, all of us in the labor movement are fighting for the same goals: safety, dignity, and fairness in the workplace,” said IUEC President Frank Christensen. “We are excited to further those goals alongside the rest of our union brothers and sisters in the transportation sector.”

“At a time when the labor movement must stand strong and remain resilient, TTD is honored to welcome our 40th affiliated union,” said TTD President Greg Regan. “Elevator constructors perform work that requires skill and dedication, and they create a more accessible world for us all. We will ensure that their voices are heard here in Washington, D.C.”
