Made-in-America Executive Order Demonstrates Commitment by President Biden to Support America’s Working Families

Washington, DC – Greg Regan, secretary-treasurer of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement applauding President Biden’s Executive Order on Ensuring the Future Is Made in All of America by All of America’s Workers:

“President Biden’s executive order prioritizing the purchase of goods made in America by American workers is proof positive that this administration is serious about standing up for this country’s working families. After four years of leadership that ultimately failed to grow America’s manufacturing sector, this executive order is not only welcome, it is necessary.

“This country has long made a promise to her people: When we spend American dollars on federally funded and supported projects, those dollars will not be used to bolster foreign nations who stand to undercut our competitiveness. Rather, American taxpayer dollars will be maximized to support American jobs and American industries.

“This executive order, which comes on the first full week of President Biden’s first term in office, will take serious steps towards ending loopholes, providing greater oversight and accountability for compliance with Made in America laws, and will continue to strengthen in the future as agencies begin their biannual reviews of all domestic preferences.

“TTD welcomes this sweeping coverage of American domestic content rules for U.S. manufactured iron and steel products, the Jones Act, and all domestic service preference programs, including U.S. cargo preference laws and regulations and the Fly America Act. We look forward to working with the Biden administration and Congress in the months ahead as they take additional steps to protect American workers and grow our national workforce.”
