Statement on Congress Averting Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON — Greg Regan and Shari Semelsberger, President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Transportation Trades Department (TTD) of the AFL-CIO, issued this statement following Congress’ action to pass a Continuing Resolution to avert a government shutdown until mid-November and authorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through December 31:

“Tonight, hundreds of thousands of working Americans breathed a sigh of relief as Congress passed an 11th hour deal to keep the government open temporarily. Cavalierly approaching a deadline that holds such real and lasting consequences for our country is no way to govern.

“And let’s be clear: this is a 45-day temporary pause on the shutdown clock that will run out just as workers and consumers need to prepare for the busy holiday travel season. Kicking the can down the road is not a responsible way to govern.”
