Washington, DC – Greg Regan, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement congratulating Jennifer Homendy’s Senate confirmation to lead the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB):
“On behalf of millions of frontline transportation workers and the unions that represent them, I congratulate Jennifer Homendy on her Senate confirmation to chair the National Transportation Safety Board.
“Homendy’s confirmation comes on the brink of one of the most transformative periods in transportation history. As chair, Homendy will lead the NTSB through unprecedented changes to our transportation system, including the introduction of new and automated technologies, passenger space flight, and the transition to greener vehicles. Her more than 25 years in transportation safety advocacy will serve her well as she embraces these new and unique challenges.
“The Senate first confirmed Homendy to serve as a member of the NTSB in 2018, and she has continued to demonstrate a life-long devotion to the board’s mission. She brings to this leadership role a deep understanding of the complexities of our multimodal network and is fiercely devoted to protecting and enhancing safety across our entire transportation system. Throughout her career, Homendy has also built a formidable knowledge of the role frontline transportation workers play in the safety and security of America’s transportation system, and a belief that working people must be part of any safety-focused solution.
“There is no person more qualified to lead the NTSB than Jennifer Homendy. Transportation labor applauds President Biden for nominating her to this position and thanks the Senate for quickly confirming Homendy as chair.”
