Restored federal funding for California High Speed Rail is win for working families

Washington, DC – Greg Regan, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issues this statement commending the Biden administration for restoring $929 million in federal funding for California High Speed Rail:

“The era of playing politics with transportation funding is over. Last week’s announcement that California High Speed Rail will once again receive federal support is a win for working families.

“When President Trump initially revoked millions in federal funding for California High Speed Rail, his administration jeopardized the promise of middle-class economic growth that comes with transformative projects, and immediately threatened the livelihoods of thousands of working people employed on this project.

“Transportation labor applauds the Biden administration, and thanks Federal Railroad Administration Deputy Administrator Amit Bose, for recognizing the importance of California High Speed Rail and restoring much-needed federal funding for this project. The return of the federal government’s involvement in America’s first high-speed rail program will lead to the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs, and spur economic activity that will benefit millions of working families.”
