WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, President of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO, issued the following statement today in reaction to the Obama Administration’s intent to nominate Peter Rogoff to become the Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration:
“Peter Rogoff is the perfect choice to lead the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The Obama Administration has tapped a true expert in the field of transit policy and investment. Peter Rogoff will transform this agency – he will apply his years of Capitol Hill service to a key job at a crucial time when the nation’s mass transit needs are soaring under ever-tightening budgets.
“Peter Rogoff also understands the critical role that our members play on the often challenging front lines of delivering first class transit service. We are confident that the voices of the employees will be welcomed by an FTA run by Peter Rogoff.
“Mass transit ridership is at an all-time high in this country, and yet so many transit systems are cutting service and jobs. Local transit agencies, their workers and passengers need an FTA Administrator who will lead a national debate about boosting investment in this growing industry and reversing damaging cuts that are hurting the nation.
“We urge the Senate to confirm Peter Rogoff who will help transit systems and their employees accommodate today’s transit users and plan for tomorrow’s demands.”
